I've been a birder and a botanist for 40 years, mainly in Britain, but also in southern Europe. I have a particular love of mountain flora, and have botanised in Northern Scotland, Yorkshire Dales, Upper Teesdale, Lake District and Snowdonia, and in Europe the Alps, Pyrenees, Picos de Europa and the mountains of Northern Greece. I’ve carried out NVC surveys, Phase 1 habitat surveys and bryophyte surveys.
I have a UK bird list of 382, and I’ve seen 252 species in Merseyside. I’ve been involved in lots of bird surveys at both national and local level. I've been moth trapping for over 10 years and have recorded over 340 species in my backyard alone. I have a lifelong love of butterflies and dragonflies, and have seen most of the British species.
I've carried out survey work of both freshwater and saltmarsh invertebrates, and I have a passion for spiders, especially the Linyphiidae “money spiders”! I've seen 51 species of reptiles, and 17 species of amphibians in over 25 years of observing them in Britain and Europe.
I’ve studied marine biology in Scotland and I’ve visited over 25 islands in the UK, including St Kilda and Fair Isle. It's been fun!
